Faculte de Sciences de Rehabilitation Leogane
Leogane, Haiti
The World Health Organization estimates that Haiti has between 1.1 million and 1.8 million Haitians live with physical disabilities. But before 2015, there were only 50 Physical Therapists and 1 Occupational Therapist in Haiti to serve their needs.
So, in that year, Faculte des Sciences de Rehabilitation de Leogane (FSRL) was founded to develop a 4-year degree program in Haiti. To date, FSRL has graduated 3 Haitian Occupational Therapists and 12 Haitian Physical Therapists using rented facilities. Though 75 students are currently enrolled in the program, more is needed to meet this growing demand so a new campus was proposed.
The new 17,510 square meter site will be adjacent to The Episcopal University of Haiti (UNEPH) in Leogane, Haiti. The first phase is comprised of 2 PT labs; Administration Block with a Library and general-purpose classroom; a Dining Pavilion with Kitchen; a Male and Female Dormitory for 40 students each and related recreational and social spaces. Each building is designed sustainably and with full handicap accessibility. Future phases will include staff housing and additional classroom spaces.
