Real Hope for Haiti

Cazalle, Kenya

Rock buildings with a crosswalk surrounded by lush trees and plant life

Led by God, Davis and Gretchen Zachery auctioned their farm and personal possessions and moved to Haiti where their family has served since 1994. The family opened a small clinic and began serving their community in 1998. Operating from a 4-room rented house, the clinic still exists and sees over 20,000 consultations per year and has over 176,000 patient files. At the same site, a Rescue Center was opened in 2002 to address the needs of malnourished children in the area. Offering intensive medical/nutritiohnal support to both child and parent, the Rescue Center today serves over 3,300 children.

When the cholera epidemic hit Haiti, soon after the 2010 earthquake, RHFH’s ability to respond to the desperate need for treatment was limited by the size of their clinic. Msaada designed a cholera treatment center where RHFH could better respond to the need of the community and surrounding region. Construction of the first phase (50 beds) of the planned 100-bed facility is now complete, allowing RHFH to provide treatment for more than 6,000 patients annually.

Today, Real Hope for Haiti has a vision for a new Medical Center. Designed by Msaada to serve both outpatient and inpatient care, the proposed Medical Center includes plans for outpatient services such as imaging and labs, while also planning for an inpatient wing including emergency services and operating suites. When built, the RHFH Medical Center will fill a vital need for healthcare in this region of Haiti.
